CALENDIMAGGIO ASSISI 2025

Assisi, 7 – 10 May, 2025

The Calendimaggio of Assisi (sometimes also transcribed Kalendimaggio) is a festival that is celebrated every first Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday after May 1st of every year, to greet the arrival of spring. The two Parts into which the city is divided, the Nobilissima Parte de Sopra and the Magnifica Parte de Sotto, compete for the conquest of the palio, through the development of processions in medieval costumes (about 13th century – mid 15th century), scenes recitations of re-enactment of medieval life in the alleys of the city and musical performances: the winning Party is decided by a jury, made up of internationally renowned experts, that is, a historian, a musicologist and a personality from the world of entertainment.

During the days of Calendimaggio, through the alleys of Assisi, you can relive the atmosphere of the typical medieval festival, with songs, music and jousting; the festival has ancient origins, dating back to the ancient tradition of the Umbrian people to greet the arrival of spring.

In these days, the people of Assisi wear traditional medieval clothes and follow a series of initiatives, including the suggestive Palio del Calendimaggio.

LE GAITE | BEVAGNA18-29 JUNE 2025

LE GAITE

Bevagna, June 18-29, 2025

The Mercato delle Gaite is inspired by the ancient division of Bevagna (PG) into four districts called Gaite. The administrative organization of the city in medieval times was based on it. The purpose of the event is to reconstruct, with the greatest historical relevance and wealth of details, the daily life of the inhabitants of the village in the period between 1250 and 1350.

For ten days, at the end of June, Bevagna takes a dip in this remote past: the ancient shops of medieval crafts reopen their doors and resume their activities; the streets are populated with bevanati who in period clothes live the daily life of their ancestors by eating, working, playing just like them. Today as then, the city is divided into four Gaite, but today each rivals the others in an attempt to give a historically faithful interpretation of the role it played in the Middle Ages. The spirit of competition is the basis of the animated event and takes the form of participation in 4 competitions: Competition of Professions, Gastronomic Competition, Market Competition and Archery Competition. With a complex system of points, assigned by scholars and experts in various fields and called to judge the historical relevance of the reconstructions, the winner is declared on the last day of the event and receives the Palio della Vittoria as a gift. The strong spirit of belonging to one’s own Gaita makes the competitions very interesting and stimulates a continuous improvement of the Gaite proposals in the various sectors, with a clear advantage of the general quality of the Festival. The Mercato delle Gaite is now counted among the most important historical events in Umbria and is part of the Regional Association of Historical Events.

UMBRIA JAZZ

Perugia, Perugia 11-20 July 2025

Who doesn’t know Umbria Jazz, one of the most famous and important Jazz festivals in Italy?

For about 10 days during the month of July, the city of Perugia dedicates itself to and embraces the best of Italian and international jazz (and not only), between the Arena Santa Giuliana, the Teatro Pavone, the Oratorio Santa Cecilia, Piazza IV Novembre and the Carducci gardens and various other exceptional locations.

It has always been one of the most important and renowned events dedicated to jazz in Europe with notable international appeal, it is an unmissable event for music lovers.

The historic center of Perugia includes over five hundred artists, afternoon, evening and night concerts, the main arena, two outdoor stages with free concerts, jazz club theaters and jazz lunches and dinners, with musical proposals that now range across the entire musical horizon to embrace the tastes of an increasingly heterogeneous audience.

FESTIVAL DEI DUE MONDI | 28 GIUGNO-14 LUGLIO 2024

FESTIVAL DEI 2 MONDI 2024

(28 JUNE-14 JULY 2024)

From 28 June to 14 July 2024, the event that hosts the best performing experiences at an international level returns to Spoleto, enhancing theatres, outdoor spaces and unconventional places, which the city offers in a unique concentration in Italy.

Now in its 67th edition, the Festival will transform the city into a real stage that will host opera, music, theater and dance performances, exhibitions, cinematographic events and many guests.

The Spoleto Festival confirms its original character and the prestige of an important international event. A historic meeting place between different cultures, today it offers a consolidated showcase for great and emerging artists and above all it is an unstoppable workshop of original productions.

At the center of the program are two works and two original readings: Ariadne auf Naxos by Strauss, entrusted to the Budapest Festival Orchestra and its director Iván Fischer, and Orfeo ed Euridice by Gluck directed by Damiano Michieletto and the Orchestra Nazionale di Santa Cecilia. The myth guides the reflection of this edition, as a cultural element that forces us to confront questions that are by definition unresolved, as an expression of the complex relationship between individuals and society, of experiences that resonate collectively and in which we recognize ourselves and which are at the basis of Western civilization.

The French director Jeanne Candel is inspired by Baùbo, the midday concerts
they lead us to explore their musical archetypes with artists such as JACK Quartet, La Lira di Orfeo, the musicians of the Budapest Festival Orchestra and the Perugia Chamber Orchestra. Alessandro Baricco presents the world premiere of his “Brief and heretical History of Classical Music” with The curious inheritance of Orpheus.

Daniel Lopatin, known as Oneohtrix Point Never, one of the most influential names in international electronics, will be present at the Festival exclusively in Italy. Lizz Wright’s soothing voice scores
an unmissable event with African-American music. She opens the Jazz Club at the Church of Sant’Agata.

Special guest of the Festival is Isabelle Adjani who gives voice to the texts of giants of French and Italian literature. The attention towards young directors and playwrights brings director Antonio Latella back to work with the students of the Silvio d’Amico National Academy of Dramatic Arts for four new shows. The return of Davide Enia is expected with a portrait of his Palermo.

Dance breaks out with the world star Friedemann Vogel, a new creation by Wayne McGregor, a great production in Piazza Duomo by Yoann Bourgeois, accompanied by another electronic star, the musician Hania Rani, and again with Mehdi Kerkouche, one of most acclaimed talents of the moment, and Dimitri Chamblas with Kim Gordon, bassist of Sonic Youth. A new and powerful immersive experience is signed by the duo Adrien M & Claire B. There are many events for the city: Stefano Mancuso returns for a new lectio magistralis while the dancers of the Il Posto company transform the vertical surfaces of the city’s buildings into a stage. Finally, a musical educational project for primary school children was born.

The work of the Carla Fendi Foundation also continues with an exhibition by the photographer Luis Alberto Rodriguez who reinterprets some precious costumes from the historical archive of the Festival dei Due Mondi and that of Monini with the concerts and the many initiatives of Casa Menotti. At Palazzo Collicola the exhibition of Chiara Camoni, author of the manifesto, and those in collaboration with Mahler & LeWitt Studios.
